Yesterday was the SkillsUSA Design Competitions for the state of Vermont. Our students competed in 4 different categories ranging from Web Design, to 3D Visualization Animation, to Pin Design, to Extemporaneous Speaking. We are very happy to say that we could not have done any better – the kids really made Cawd and CTE proud. 4 golds, 3 silvers, 2 bronzes – the only students in the state that a Cawd student lost out to … was another Cawd student.
Gold – Jade and Seth | Cawd2
(Trust me – that is happy Jade)
Silver – Alex and Evan | Cawd2
Bronze – Hugo and Ben | Cawd2
** Ben got a silver, pretty jazzed about that – and while we were sitting at the awards ceremony he gets an email saying he has been accepted into his first choice college program – Concordia University in Montreal. So he technically may have won the most last night – good job Ben!
3D Animation and Visualization
In 7 hours create an infomercial for the Cheese-0-Matic 3000. Take a pitch from an inventor and give them a television spot for their new double spatula product to make flipping grilled cheese even easier. Starting from concept art, go through storyboards, modeling, texturing, animation and video editing.
Gold – Jon and Garrett | Cawd
Silver – Lindsey and Brennden | Cawd
Bronze – Dylan and Vlad | Cawd2
Create a 2D design using graphic design workflow which will be mass produced in a wearable pin that all Vermonters wear at the National Championships.
Gold – Elizabeth | Cawd2
Silver – Seth | Cawd2
A contest we have not entered in years – this is where a student gets a topic, and has 5 minutes to prepare. We just happened to have a class president who I think of as quite gregarious so we said, “Hey, do you want to try it out?”…and then he goes and wins states.
Gold – Robert | Cawd
Overall very happy – I told the kids if we had 4 gold medals we could maybe skip the quiz today….and then they go and do it. Ok, fair is fair.
On to Louisville this June for the National Design Competitions where the big bucks are for scholarships.
