9:45 Akira Cut Scene Cinematic Project Amendment
Color Bleeding:
An amendment is a change or addition made to something. The most common use of amendment may be in the US Constitution.
I am going to add some amendments to the Akira Cut Scene Project to help you out in your design:
- Some students have asked to do the ally in daytime similar to my example from last Thursday – > this is ok. No time requirement / night or day.
- Mental Ray is no longer required. If you want to use the Scanline Render (the default renderer in Max) this is ok. (I may have inadvertently made your life harder by assigning a dark Mental Ray render)
- Students here next Monday will get class time to work on Akira project. I have no desire for a make work project when not everyone is here. We will continue working on Akira to make it as good as possible.
In my humble opinion this is how I rank difficulty of each method starting with most difficult:
- Mental Ray Renderer + Night (Hardest as light bounces around and color bleeds -> hard to get dark and look nice)
- Mental Ray Renderer + Day
- Scanline Renderer + Day
- Scanline Renderer + Night (Easiest way to make a nice dark project…but you don’t get to use Mental Ray Materials / Renderer
9:55 Morning Max Review Content:
- Glowing Textures using Mental Ray
- Faking Glowing Texture using Standard Render
10:45 Break (15 Minutes)
11:00 Morning Max Pass / Fail: Subtle Camera Movement
In this pass / fail exercise you are going to open the file “akiraPassFail.max” from today’s example files. Just as you will for the Akira assignment, you will use this file to setup a slow camera animation establishing shot for a cinematic cut scene. We want to have a slow motion left to right and up and down, establishing the new location, preparing the game player for the next phase of the game.
This will be a direct practice to what you will work on this week.
Make sure to adjust the camera’s position in the curve editor before you attempt to get checked off. The camera should *not* speed up or slow down. You just have to get the animated camera working in Max, you don’t need to render anything – just focus on the animation.
