Notes
- Thank you for doing a nice job yesterday, and to those students that helped each other out, I appreciate it.
- Thanks to efforts by CTE student council and efforts be concerned students (who handled things the right way and went through appropriate channels of discontent) lunch is being bumped up to 30 minutes from 25.
- Due to the fire alarm we had on Wednesday afternoons, I will let students this afternoon choose if they want to do a separate 20% project as normal or continue working on the Go-Cart. I need to know from you by 1pm which way you want to go.
- Quiz today after break…if you need to do some last minute studying please do so!

11:30 Week 11 Sketching Content: SkillsUSA Pin Design #2
Today we will continue our SkillsUSA Pin Design Design process by creating your second draft design.
Again the rules. I will only interpret and enforce the existing rules as they stand.
Grab a sheet of paper and art supplies. Thinking back to your brainstorming sketches for this design competition pick one of your ideas. This idea has to be different from your 1st draft, I don’t want multiple versions of the same idea.
There are three gates your design must pass to even be considered for the competition:
- Hit on 100% of the requirements – you don’t, your journey ends here. The only change will be the date: we will use 2012-2013!
- Be legible at a large and small level. Something that looks good large, but not when made 1 1/4 inches across, will not work.
- …this one is subjective and you can’t hate us for it…but it has to be “good” to move on. Most likely you will know if yours is at a level to enter in a juried design competition. Be on par with these.
And as last week, the final realities of life:
Some students won’t get any entered. Some will get multiple entered. This is where CAWD starts separating itself from public education (everybody’s a winner, who wants a hug) to the real world (your designs define you, there are winners and losers to life). It’s time you start to realize this.
Sign, date, and place on back table. Make sure to get art supplies back in correct bins by the end of the day.
Some student examples from last weeks first draft:
12:00 Lunch (30 Minutes)
12:30 Attendance and Article
12:30 Quiet Production Time
12:50 Google Inspired 20% Project for 12/2
Regardless of what you choose to work on save with the 20% nomenclature.
2:05 Dismissal
