Notes
- Welcome to Week 16! Hope everyone had a good break…you get a three day weekend right after exams (MLK day), so the next break is right around the corner for you.
- Happy Birthday to Corey who is 17!
- Doors locked tomorrow morning before class and Thursday afternoon after class due to meetings in the room.
- This week is midterm review..next week is midterms.
- Week 15 work is due today at 3pm. While work due today isn’t giant in volume (lots of pin drafts and a 20%), lets get it all in to push our grade up as high as possible for the semester average.
- Review Quiz on Friday which will give you a taste of the written portion of our midterm.
- During our morning meetings please bring your sketch book over so I can grade your “Bridge” sketch. The Week 16 Sketchbook Assignment is “class”. I want to see where else you go during your day. I know you go to Mrs. Pikes room…what does it look like from your seat? Or Mrs. Ligori’s room, or Mr. McNaulty’s room…anywhere but CAWD. Can be at CTE, or your home school…but a class you go to this year…give me your vantage point, what you see. An example I did sitting in on English with Mr. Bisson before break:
9:40 Attendance and Article
9:45 Site Maintenance
- Check the Week 15 “What is due”. Start the year off strong by getting everything in on time / named correctly, etc.
- No new vocab, but we do have a review quiz (10 questions as normal) which will cover all vocab and terminology’s you have received in CAWD as a review for our midterms next week:
- 1 and quiz.
- 2 and quiz.
- 3 and quiz.

10:45 Break (15 Minutes)
11:00 Morning Pin Polishing (Midterm Photoshop Pen Illustration Review)
This morning is the final time you get to work on your pin before it goes to Mr. Herr and I. You need to use this morning to hit on all the requirements.
Quietly help each other out, ask about legibility, if this looks good, if that looks good. This very well could be the first legitimate design cred you earn in your career.
Everyone needs to understand that if Mr. Herr and I don’t feel it is where it needs to be for moving on to the next level, you won’t get entered into the competition.
When complete save your file as “finalDraftCronin.jpg” and “finalDraftCronin.psd” where you replace my name with your into your Week 16 folder.
In addition to this there is a folder on the public drive called “Final Draft Pins”, everyone must put both files in this folder as well by lunch today so Mr. Herr and I can look at them. We go to lunch when I have .jpg’s and .psd’s from everyone.
Mr. Herr and I will look over these and give creative criticism, speaking with specific students that may need a tweak here or there. We are up against a deadline for these, so turn around will be quick, and we will talk with you most likely tomorrow on adjustments and creating of the small version. (Not everyone will be submitted, so not everyone needs to go to this step.)
12:00 Lunch (30 Minutes)
12:30 Attendance and Article
12:35 Quiet Production Time
12:50 Afternoon Max Project (Midterm Animation Review): Balls Bouncing.
This afternoons max review project will revisit one of our previous projects, animation of a ball bouncing in different ways. This review project is to practice animation creation through keyframes and control through the curve editor.
You will create 3 short animations in Max today (only in max, no rendering, this is review and practice). You will show me your animation in Max and I will check you off. I will check you off only when you have tweaked what you have to something that is acceptable. Once you are checked off of Animation #1, go on to Animation #2, and then Animation #3. Once all three are checked off, use the rest of the afternoon for site maintenance.
Animation #1: Ball Bouncing across Ground. Ball needs to bounce across the floor with each bounce getting smaller. Don’t forget rotation, and adjusting keyframes in curve editor to “fast” to mimic impact bounces.
Animation #2: Ball Bouncing down Stairs. Ball needs to bounce down stairs. Don’t forget rotation and realistic ball path through the air, as well as adjusting keyframes in curve editor to “fast” to mimic impact bounces.
Animation #3: Ball bouncing off Random Objects. Animate your ball bouncing off some random objects. Keep in mind weight, path, rotation, and keyframe adjustments for correct behavior.
Remember, no rendering, no sound, just show me your skills in 3D Studio. Each animation needs to be a minimum of 6 seconds of motion. Not 2 seconds of animation and 4 of it “rolling”. You know what I mean, and if you don’t, ask so you don’t need to redo something.
Nothing to upload…I grade what I see.
2:05 Dismissal
