9:45 Presentation Practice for tomorrows…presentation.
First – students that are acting like fake pre-tech students for this morning need to act as if you know nothing. We need you to act clueless to give the best practice for the students acting as teachers.
Partners (Students acting as teacher in bold)
- Chace | Benoit
- Emily| Bowen
- Taylor | Chambers
- Rock | Decker
- Belleville | Groff

Move to sit with your partners at the teachers seat.
Rough agenda when you get your visitor:
- Introduce yourself, make them feel welcome. I get very nervous around people I don’t know and I tend to shut down and try to hide in the back of meetings / parties / etc. Your visitor may be the same way, so lets do our best to make them feel comfortable.
- Show them some of best work of the year from you and your classmates, your pin designs, your STEM logos, sketchbooks, hand drawings…don’t start with your earliest work, show off your best work as we don’t have much time. What are your best projects to show off in Photoshop or 3DS? Explain what we do, that you can earn college credit, get certified in web design, and prepare yourself for a creative career. Show the some of the selected works Mr. Herr has put together to see a little bit of everything we do in CAWD. Don’t forget the resource link as well for other work -> but what Mr. Herr gave us will be a good visual amuse-bouche. They need to know CAWD isn’t 100% UDK; we do lots of different types of design.
- Fire up UDK and show them the basics of the interface, creating additive and subtractive geometry, lights, content browser, how to build all and “play from here”. If you have the skills show them how to build terrain, use vehicles, and incorporate weapon pickups, jumps, etc. In an ideal world after 10-15 minutes we need to have the visitors driving the mouse, with you guiding them. We want the visitors to be creating some sort of a world in UDK. This is an intro, don’t go too crazy -> you need to solve your own problems for this, there will be too much going on, and too many people for me to come around and help people -> you are on your own little island for this.
So today from 10-10:45 we are going to practice, as if you have a visitor. You are being graded on this. Don’t look at me and say at 10:17 “I am done”…you need to work with the student until 10:45, so if all else fails you can fall back to our first project we created together which you can see below. I figured the plaza area you could use for static meshes from the content browser:
If you find out your student may like Photoshop as well, feel free to fire that up as well…pretty much anything we do.
Ok, this is the morning to work the kinks out, so don’t stress, let’s have fun with this…take it away.
10:45 Break (15 Minutes)
11:00 CAWD Pin Design Voting
Items to keep in mind while you vote:
- Some pins, as hard as Mr. Herr and I tried, are hung up and do not follow the design specs. In the real world they wouldn’t even be considered. Should you?
- Some people just take photos from the internet and call it design. See if you can find the pin with the small image that was scaled up – you can actually see the grid of pixels of the raster image! They actually submitted this.
- etc
It will be exams at ehs and when we walk down to see the pins you need to be quiet. Once we get through the school and get to where they are hung up we can quietly talk about the pins, but still at an acceptable level. We don’t do this and become a distraction to others, we won’t be getting a full lunch.
Mr. Hill will be watching over CAWD as I take us down to vote in waves…he knows CAWD, don’t mess with him.
When we are back from pins we have the rest of the morning to work on our 3D Capstone Revision Project.
