Flash Animation Week 1 Assignment
Class hours: 9:40am – 2:05pm
Mr. Cronin
Welcome to your first Flash Animation College Assignment!
Flash Animation will run throughout the second semester in parallel to our CAWD web semester of coursework.
Assignments will always be given on Monday mornings and due the following Tuesday at 3pm with all other CAWD work. You will always get a weekend to work on your assignment. I go by the timestamps as you know, 2:59 is on time, 3:01 is late.
Turning in Assignments
Flash Animation files must be in a “flashAnimation” folder on your server space outside of your weekly folders. When I go to grade your college work I will not be going inside of your weekly folders:
Inside your “flashAnimation” folder you will follow specific assignment directions for folder creation / saving files on a weekly basis. This will show up in the specific assignment.
As this is a college class, we are expecting more of a mature, independent, organized approach to your work. If you miss an assignment you will have the following consequences:
- Make up the work with a two letter grade deduction.
- Required to stay after the following Tuesday in CAWD from 2:05 to 3 in CAWD, even if the assignment is in.
Some of are motivated by grades, some by their freedom; I plan to use both.
Grade Composition
Your Flash Animation grade is 50% CAWD, and 50% college-specific work. Two main ideas to keep in mind:
- Your relatively small Flash specific assignments count proportionally larger in your grade than your CAWD work. Don’t rush them or “mail them in”. In essence what you do for the week counts as much as your college assignment.
- Your weekly CAWD grade includes worker traits. How you carry yourself (including CAWD2 students in CAWD2) will have an effect on your overall grade.
While nobody in the real world will see your high school GPA after you are 22 or so…your college course record follows you to the grave. I have a D- in “History of the Ancient Greeks” which I will always have because I slacked off my senior year, and I very much regret this. You cannot slack on these classes, as they could determine college acceptance, college GPA rewards (internships, preferred class / housing selection) and scholarship money.
Assignment #1: Character Headshot
In your first assignment you are going to practice using the drawing tools, layers and become more familiar with the interface.
Create a new document (Actionscript 3) at 1280 x 720 resolution.
Using the drawing tools, layers, and your abilities, create a character headshot. This does not need to be an entire character, focus on the upper torso and up, or neck and up. Something like the following example:
You can use the mouse or the tablet. Obviously all content is going to be original.
Deliverable:
Publish your file and upload both the .fla and the .swf as “character”. Place both files in an “assignment_1″ folder inside of your “flashAnimation” folder.
Due Date:
Tuesday January 31st at 3pm.
