Welcome to Week 19!
Doors locked immediately after school today due to Monday afternoon meetings.
We start web design this week, we may do a 3D project here and there, but from now on we will focus on the interwebs. (Anna and Chapin starting this week I would like to begin using 20%’s to prep for the 3D competition).
Back to our normal scheduling: site maintenance today, quiz Friday, English Monday and Wednesday, etc.

Tomorrow morning we will have some different “things” going on:

…due to this we are going to have an extra session of Site Maintenance tomorrow morning. Everybody has something to work on, be it getting work in for grading or studying for the quiz.

New Sketchbook assignment is “Igloo” -> due at next Monday’s site maintenance.

1:05 Afternoon Photoshop Project: Literal Visualizations of “I Wish” Chorus.

This afternoon you are going to work in Photoshop using custom shapes to fill a specific need – creating an illustration which conveys the message in old school rap song “I wish”.

The song is about a guy who isn’t tall enough, tough enough, smart enough, or rich enough to get the girl. It goes through how pathetic he thinks he is.

The chorus of this song is what you will be visualizing:

“I wish I was little bit taller,
I wish I was a baller,
I wish I had a girl who looked good
I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
and a six four Impala“

This song has a cult following and already has a T-shirt with the chorus which is popular with the hipsters. Even if you try to duplicate the original 100% you will still get great practice finding, downloading and using custom shapes.

Here is a photo of the actual shirt.

Start with a new document at 750 pixels wide by 1000 pixels in height at 300 dpi.

You are limited to two colors just as in the t-shirt.

Find custom shapes (not brushes) that fit with the above lyrics, using the actual shirt as an example. One for the background, one for the shapes itself and any layout elements you use (such as the grid in the original).

When complete save your file twice as “taller.jpg” an “taller.psd” and upload to Week 19.
