Class hours: 9:40am – 2:05pm
Mr. Cronin
Mr. Moore

Notes

  • Would anyone like to stay for a Homework Club bus today?  Need Life sketch today at 3pm.
  • Open House Saturday!  Bring Cawd good people.  Sending schools for the others!
  • Quiz Friday!
  • Students not here yesterday may be paired up with students that WERE here yesterday to do the AM project.  Noobs type, veterans explain.  Would anyone like to step up as an intra-Cawd visitor ambassador?  Need pairings for:
    • Sears
    • Isaiah
    • Parrow
    • Ward
  • Students that are hoping to stay at CTE next year need to apply just as you did this year.  Applications are due right after February vacation.  If you would like to visit another program for next year please talk to Emmy and she can set up a visit for you.  For example Saige from last year Cawd’s class is currently in Auto.  If you want to apply to get into Cawd2 (or any CTE program) you must:
    1. Fill out the application as normal and turn into your sending school guidance office.
    2. Fill out a teacher recommendation for and give to me.  This second component is only for students that wish to return to CTE – you would not have done it last year.  It helps Mr. Moore decide who gets accepted to Cawd2 –  typically there cuts as it is popular.  Students that don’t get into Cawd2 are welcome to stay at CTE and go to a different program such as auto, dcm, pro foods, etc.
  • Instead of putting grandma in a home…
  • Pretty.

9:45 Wednesday Morning Web Exercise:  Bio of filmmaker Orson Welles

As we have been learning War of the Worlds in English, we have also learned about filmmaker Orson Welles.  He produced one of my favorite movies of all time, Citizen Kane, and was known as revolutionary for his use of media to entertain and inform the world.

This project will dive into his work.

Technical Requirements

  • Center channel div with solid color background.
  • Black and white color palette.  No use of color to match up with the late 1930’s aesthetic.  Think film noir which we all know as “a style or genre of cinematographic film marked by a mood of pessimism, fatalism, and menace”.  Good times.
  • Valid html5
  • Use of background image from Subtle Patterns, or other like site which matches theme.
  • Comment html code at top with:
    • Your name
    • The date
    • Your email

Content Requirements

  • Header graphic created the same width as your center channel div that includes a photo of Welles and his name.  Logical and appropriate height.
  • Use of headings, paragraphs, and lists to outline 3 of projects he was deeply connected to:
    • War of the Worlds
    • Citizen Kane
    • Touch of Evil
  • For each of the 3 projects include:
    • An image of the project (all 3 images the same size)
    • The following info broken out into bullets and headings per project.  (Figure out how to organize data which looks aesthetically pleasing).
      • Year
      • Role
      • Description
      • Awards
      • Impact on pop culture

No citations necessary.

Any image from the internet legal to use.

Create a folder called “orson” and an html called “index.html” so it auto loads.

12:45 Wednesday Afternoon Web Design Exercise:  JFK’s “Ich bin ein Berliner”

Today we are going to work visualizing the famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech from JFK in Germany.

Your project will include:

  • Work in a center channel div 900 pixels wide with a solid color background.  Centered.
  • A background image from Subtle Patterns.
  • In the center channel div I want to be able to read the speech.  Find, copy paste, and format appropriately with title, verses, etc.  This will include paragraphs, headings, sub headings, etc.
  • At the bottom (still in the center channel) I want to see a Youtube video of the speech embedded in the site.
  • Include an image of JFK at the top under the headings which introduce the page.  This image should be no more than say 600 pixels in size.
  • Use a Google Font appropriate for the theme in your headings.  Keep the default font for all other copy other than headings.
  • (No citations necessary).

Validate code before you turn in.  Invalid code is a maximum of a D.

Create a folder called “kennedy” inside Week 22.  Your html file will be named “index.html” so it auto loads in this folder.
