10:45 Morning Maya Content

Friday we are going to work with the guys from Pinbox 3000.  For those that don’t know they are makers of the Pinbox 3000 system game / kit.  Students build their own game system and start with a blank game board.

We are going to work with the developers of the game to build some assets to be used in the game.  The goal is the assets are stored as digital files which can be downloaded whenever, wherever they want, for free.  They are then 3D printed, and incorporated into their projects.

These projects could be:

  • static / animated / powered – the static elements have the greatest chance of success in my opinion as they will be the least complex.
  • painted
  • specific / abstract

This is going to be a great way to collaborate with a real business in the game design work, and develop assets to be printed out and used.  While this is our pilot year of the program, my end goal is you and your team have assets that can be downloaded by players all over the world.

This would be something very powerful to have in your Portfolio for college.

Friday we are going to work in teams and go through the design process for some of these assets:

  1. Pre-production  / idea phase / concept art
  2. Modeling of assets / animation demonstrations of functionality
  3. PR / Promotion component.  Website creation (single page) to pitch idea and asset to the Pinbox team.

We are good with steps 1 and 3 above, but are going to review step 2 (the Maya aspect) so we are ready.

  • Review of Interface
  • Review of Animation
  • Review of Materials

Any extra time we can put to a short session of site maintenance.

12:05 Site Maintenance

Seniors are going to have time in Cawd during SBACS to work on a number of options:

  • Site Maintenance – first get fully caught up with any missing work.
  • Production Time – work on projects currently assigned.
  • Work on Web Dev college work.
  • Prep for the Game Design Competition
  • Prep for the Skills Web Competition (Jestings and Bouffard do a mini-project with Mr. Moore?)
  • Side work – work of your own design, or your own interests.  This could be Cawd, but also chemistry, algebra, etc.

If you are working, I am going to be fairly flexible in this SBAC window of time for seniors (and Milton juniors).  If I get the feeling you are chillaxing to the max, I am going to have to assign specific work to be done each day, per student.  I do not want to do this.

We are going to have dailies today of what you worked on.  Our dailies for SBAC’s will be very diverse, and this is perfectly acceptable.
