9:45 Morning Web Design Step By Step – Number Game | By yourselves?  In teams?

Today we are going to do a step by step coding project to make a number guessing game using html5 and javascript.

This will be a great project with a focus on:

  • variables
  • functions
  • DOM Manipulation
  • Conditional Statements
  • Comments

We code, we practice.  A nice Friday exercise.

You have two options, follow along with me as we do it step by step and I do a little more explanation of what is happening, or look at my references and just do it.  I tried to comment the main points, but it did get to be a wall of comments.  Pretty much half of the text below could be removed (just comments) and the program would still run, so don’t get intimated!

11:00 Certification Preparation

Cawd will have their certification exam on Thursday, April 20th at 10 am.  In addition to all the content we have covered this semester, there are some pieces of content which simply can’t be “practiced hands on”, such as browser rendering engine, etc.

I have created a little web application that I use for two … uses.

  1. Preparing for our Certification Exam (first time I used it in this way)
  2. Preparing for the Vermont Arts end of the year assessment.

I know this model works.  It works with a gamification model, and “tries to make learning fun“.

Last year across the state for the Vermont Arts Assessment about 50% of the kids failed.  Last year in Cawd 100% of the students passed, with the lowest grade in the class being a 91.  Of course, Cawd is filled with smart kids, but I think this type of model works to learn this type of content.

And it was fun to code, so that was a benefit as well.

So today we are going to roll it out and start using it.  While the “system works”, this is a variation on the theme.  Questions are being added daily, and if you find a grammatical typo you must tell me so I can fix!

Let’s see how she works!  As the developer of this I am excited, and as this build is new with a new backend and database etc it could all blow up in my face, but we won 4 Gold Medals so I am in a pretty good mental place and can handle it.

11:30 Cup Art

Remember that article?  I thought it was pretty neat.  I have never done this before.

I have markers.

I have cups.

Impress me – simple as that.
