11:00 Week 30 and 31 Web Design Exercise: Homepage V3 / Portfolio Framework

Today we are going to start a step by step long term project where we are going to develop not only Portfolio V3, but also a framework for an end of the year Portfolio.  The State of Vermont has two exit tasks for Cawd:

  • Portfolio where you demonstrate work you have done.
  • Arts Exam – this is last year what everyone in Cawd passed, with the lowest grade being a 91, and we had 5 perfect scores.  We will do fine.

We will pass both easily, so long as we do the work.

This project will include:

  • Your work (I know)
  • html5, css3 (definitely)
  • js (…maybe?)
  • php (used for a contact form, as well as includes for the header, nav, and footer)

Today we are going to start building the framework of the organization.

12:00 Lunch (30 Minutes)

12:35 Quiet Production Time

12:45 Tuesday / Thursday Client Work

This afternoon we will start a two-day client project acting as a web designer for the Champlain Valley Driver Training School.

This is the first project in Cawd where the expectation is that everyone improves on what already exists.

This is a perfect example of a small mom and pop style client which could be your first job when summer starts.

Our steps:

  1. Evaluation of what they have / Looking at their Information Architecture
  2. Logo Design?  Typographic focus?
  3. Questions from the audience / I will act as the client
  4. How do you separate yourself?  What value added work could you incorporate?

Media will have to be used from their site (ehhh) or pulled from Creative Commons licensed material.  All imagery regardless of the page used will be given attribution in comments on the homepage.  As you are charging for this work, all media must have the ability to be used commercially.

Create a folder inside Week 30 called “driverTraining”.  Your completed project goes there.
