Wednesday, May 10th

Class hours: 9:40am – 2:05pm
Mr. Cronin
Mr. Moore

  • Students may stay and work today until 3pm when all work from Week 32 is due.  Would anyone like a Homework Club Bus?
  • Nice 3D Tetris Loop – maybe a 20?
  • In the spirit of our Bike Themed Morning
  • No study guide today – just too much to do.
  • Text based Memorization Game & Rock Paper Scissor are being presented to the class for final grade tomorrow at 11:25.  Be ready with functional, valid code.  You will come up to the lead computer to present.
  • Good news everyone!  We are going to be able to link to YouTube (our CCSU account) to incorporate animations in the Vermont Portfolio Lite.  We are still likely going to have to have a placeholder image to use in addition to that link, so if you are going to use your PSA animation (as an example) make sure you are getting a 720p (at least) still frame which is visually attractive.

9:45 Concept Art / Design Ideas for a Bike Rack Project

Today students from the Engineering Program are coming to pitch an idea they have for a Bike Rack Project.  They are installing this in our community.

This is the email I received from the Engineering student – let’s call him … Jordan (As I think this is his name).

“I am currently working on a joint bike rack project with my Tech Program and Natural Resources Mechanical for the community. I would want to collaborate with your students in regards to the design aspect of this project. Can we plan a day for next week to meet together?  I hope some of your students would be able provide design input.”

They are going to visit at 10:15.  Until then I want you taking a sheet (or two, or 10) of paper and design out different potential ideas for such a “bike rack”.

Let’s assume that the bike rack will hold bikes while the riders are at school, shopping, etc.
  • How could it be built to support the most number of bikes in the smallest area?  In the easiest to access way?
  • Are there different features which could be added that you as a bike rider would like to see?
  • Construction materials?
  • How to make something dual functional such as with the bench above?
  • How about an “art-rack” that speaks more to design than it does to functionality?  Something that says CTE that holds bikes?
  • Etc.

If I was sitting in front of a blank sheet of paper I would consider (feel free to take my ideas):

  • Use one of the tubes of the bike rack for a built in pump.
  • Add a small solar panel that would power a series of LED lights that go on at dark through a basic light sensor.
  • Same idea for light but with small windmill.
  • Find a way to attach an allen-tool/multi-tool to the rack for those loose bolts, seat posts, etc.
  • Built in small garbage / recycle bin.

I believe the Engineers are looking for some creative solutions to the project.  Depending on how they like your ideas, you may be able to move on and work with them on the project, and get another credit in your professional Portfolio.  By 10:15 have some ideas to pitch and ideas to talk about when the Engineers arrive.

Groups of 3 / Concept Artists for the group in bold:

  • Lewis / Bouffard / Bruce
  • Le / Cardosi / Carner
  • Ward / Tenzin / Drown
  • Farley / Goodman / Husrt
  • Haley / McCann / Parrow
  • Jestings / Pecor / Soren
  • Amber / Sears / Wakeling
  • Reid / Whaon / Witham

Get in groups, move around the room, Concept Artists are going to act as Creative Directors for the group for organization.

Consider electing a group member in charge of PR to make a pitch / give input.

I am going to have the Camera setup so you can display your input on the big board at 10:15.

** Again – this is something different, we are going to roll with it. **
