10:30 Vermont Portfolio

The focus this week is the Vermont Portfolio.

My goal is to help you through the login process, and populations of the different sections.

Videos must be uploaded to your CCSU YouTube channel for linking if doing a process piece.  Then you create a link to your YouTube Video in the .pdf.

I will float around and help, check in, etc.

I frankly don’t know how much time this will take as we have never done this before.  We could get it done today, we could be 10% done.  I just don’t know, we have never done this before.  We will roll with it.

Don’t hit submit yet!  We will ALL do this Friday.

When complete move into the Week 34 WordPress.com powered project

11:30 WordPress.com powered project

As you know the focus in May is on independent learning and application.

Week 34 will have a parallel morning project to our Vermont Arts Portfolio, a design using WordPress.com.

WordPress.org is something different, it is the most popular CMS on the planet, and we are going to use it starting next week.

WordPress.com is the “light” version of WordPress.  It often hosted on their own server, can cost nothing, and is often referred to as a “hosted site”.  So if your client is a plumber he would have:

  • plumber.wordpress.com (you can pay to get this removed, but by default, you have the “wordpress” in their domain.

Next week we will start exploring more robust WordPress.org software where instead of using their software on their server, you use their software on your server.  It turns gives you 100% total control, but then you have the extra responsibility to deal with.   Cawd runs on a WordPress.org installed CMS.  Simply, it is the industry standard.

This week is all about getting used to the “WordPress” interface, which we can do using WordPress.com.

Sign up for an account, and you have total control to create a website about something.  Let’s say you need to have a minimum of 5 pages.

You will be presenting this to the class for grade next week, you don’t need to upload anything to your Week 34 folder specifically.

Get to it!  Use the documentation online, use videos, use each other.  Just make sure you are looking for specific information for WordPress.com, and NOT .org.

Due to crazy schedules, mornings are for:

  1. Vermont Portfolio (Most important – I would like this “done” by Thursday)
  2. WordPress.com powered site (get it done for presentation in class next week)
  3. Study Guide’s (one a day)

12:00 Lunch (30 Minutes)

12:30 Attendance and Article

12:35 Quiet Production Time

12:45 Week 34 Bootstrap Powered Client Work

Students that were here yesterday, simply get to work!

For students not here yesterday

  • An introduction.
  • Topic Drawn randomly – yesterday 100% of the “randomly” drawn topics were for Red Clover.  The chances of that happening were 1 in 64.  Let’s see what we can do today…
