  • No Homework Club today!  We have a meeting in the room with a next year student.  Plan for this.

  • Friday morning we will have an Emily Post Seminar in Cawd to help us prepare for life in the real world.  This will be a nice presentation that will give us some tools to interface successfully with employers and other professionals.

The Week 35 WordPress.org project requirements:

  • 5-page website using WordPress.org installed on your system.
  • The front page must be a blog with at least one Post (Not “Hello World”) and you must get someone to make a comment on your page.  This will force you to moderate their comment through the dashboard.

Variations on the theme include:

  • Custom theme selection and customization
  • Plugins!  Find something that seems useful / you like the functionality of.
  • Blog on the front page where you can moderate comments.

12:45 Week 35 Afternoon Motion Graphics / Animation / Video Editing Project

This is the television we have in the hallway, you all have seen it:

We try to use it as a way to show some of the types of work we do in the Cawd program to hallway walkers who don’t venture into the room.

Recruiting for next year is done, we have a great class on the horizon.  I would like to play a bit with the tv.  The hallway television is our medium this week, our final file will be an .mp4.

What do I want you to do?  From a 50,000 foot level I want you to create something:

  • visually interesting
  • that is slick/professional
  • creates a sense of one of two possible options:
    • “They create some interesting designs in that class”.
    • … or …
    • “What the heck did I just watch.”

I kid you not, the 2nd option is viable option.  Last May (or was it two May’s ago…) I created an end of the year clip that included an lcd crack in the screen with flickering imagery, I interspersed some pictures of goats (Goat simulator was popular at the time), and it was just … strange.  I wrapped this clip around a Cawd logo with cross dissolves.  It was great.  I had people stopped in the hallway and looking at our television.  This is the goal.  Guerilla marketing?  Art installation?  All of the above.

What I want from you this week is something that I can cut a Cawd logo animation (Soren?) in between.  So we are going to continue to put our Branding out there, but we are going to use some “different” visuals to draw hallway walkers in.

What the final mp4 will look like:

  • Cawd Logo Animation (short / 5 seconds / fade up and down from black or white)

Content Requirements

  • Storyboard and pitch to me.  I want you working on an idea that has the chance to get hallway-ed.  It can be avant-garde, but not to the point of making people uncomfortable.
  • If you aren’t feeling weird or odd, you could do a screen capture of you modeling an axe for example, (do it over 60 minutes) and then speed it up in Premiere for a time lapse effect.  Do a time lapse hand drawing where you scan your progress every 15 minutes and cut it together.  Go get a Camera and do a video of slowly panning in on everyone’s eye and cut it together.  Get a camera and record moving slowly around the plants in the room.  I want to really open this up to a “Motion Graphics” rough theme, and let you go crazy.

Technical Requirements

  • 1920 x 1080 in Premiere / After Effects.  Please notice the large file size.
  • No access to sound / use text if you need to push your message along.
  • School Appropriate imagery and text (if you use any)

Export your final piece by EOD Friday called “(lastNameTelevision.mp4”) at 1080p.

Dailies this week will be shared on the Google Drive Folder (make public so we can share).  Submit link as normal, just have it going to a live Google Drive link that I can open without logging in. 

I can look at storyboards as soon as you get them complete.  Don’t raise your hand unless you have the timing and descriptions labeled (as well as sheets).  Ignore sound as you won’t have access to it.
