Notes
- Welcome to Week 9
- Doors locked immediately after school today due to Monday morning meetings.
- This is the first week of Quarter 2 work in CAWD. Most of your other classes are probably counting this week as part of Quarter 1. We are always a week ahead. Why? Because the work that you do this week is actually due next Tuesday (during the 2nd quarter). So, this week the push is get in all week 1 work in before Friday November 4th, when all 1st quarter grades become locked in.

12:50 Afternoon Photoshop Step By Step: Album Art
1:05 Afternoon Photoshop Project: Indie Band Covers
Create a folder inside of Week 9 called “indie”. It is in this “indie” folder that your album art will go for grading.
This afternoon you will use the skills / techniques we just practiced to churn out album art for up and coming bands, as if you worked as a designer for a record company in L.A. This will get you working in Photoshop practicing:
- correct sized documents / correct resolutions
- Using 3rd party digital assets (something you didn’t create) appropriately
- Using layers
- Using text and different fonts
Start with the album photo, then get the album name, then get the band name.
Album Photo – start with the last photo! See if the artist lets you save their image, if not, go to the next to last and so on. Save the largest file size.
Album Name – find the first sentence in a quote of 6 or less words starting from the top.
Band Name - first random Wikipedia article you find with 6 or less words.
Dimensions:
- 4.75 inches x 4.75 inches
- Resolution set to 300 (this stands for dots per inch, or dpi)
You are going to create as many quality albums as you can. I’d rather see 4 excellent projects than 3 good ones. I’d rather see 3 excellent projects than 4 good ones. For each album you create save it twice as “albumX.psd” and “albumX.jpg” and upload to your “indie” folder in Week 9.
For grading I will go to your “indie” folder and find a number of album covers (both .jpg and .psd).
2:05 Dismissal
