1:10 Afternoon Max Exercise: Light Sabre
A lightsaber is defined as:
“The lightsaber is a fictional weapon that plays a key role in the movies, games and novels that constitute the Star Wars universe. Lightsabers are science fiction versions of their namesake, the saber. Instead of a metal blade, the lightsaber holds a retractable, brightly colored energy blade about one meter in length. Though they often behave like regular swords, they are also depicted as able to cut through most matter with little or no resistance and to deflect projectiles and other weapons in the Star Wars universe. Within the world of Star Wars, the lightsaber “blade” consists of a very tight loop of highly focused energy, or a loop of plasma contained in a strong magnetic or other field. When deactivated, a lightsaber appears as a polished metallic handle, about a foot long.”

You will get this afternoon to create your own lightsaber. You can recreate one you find online, or you can create your own.
This project will practice your box modeling techniques as well as practice glow effects.
By the end of the day we want you to create 3 renders:
The first render should be of your lightsaber with blade extended. This render will use a glow effect. This render is not to have a skylight, or light tracer, and have a black background. This render will be like the first three examples above.
The second and third renders should be of your lightsaber turned “off”. We want up close, zoomed in views of your modeling/texturing work on the base. These renders will be the final example above – where we can see the detail of the saber itself. If interested here is where you can use light tracer with a white plane setup.
All renders are to be 1280 x 720 in size. Call them “saber_1.jpg” through “saber_3.jpg” and upload to Week 9.
