Notes

• There will be a college fair next Thursday during the school day. Anyone that wants to attend needs to sign up today.
• All week_01 work is due today. Starting next Tuesday, anyone with less than a C- in CAWD will be required to stay after school on Tuesday.

9:40 Google inspired 20% planning

As you know by now, you will each chose one subject to study / work on every Tuesday from now, until the end of this year. This is based on Google’s 20% projects. Every Friday at Google, you are permitted to work on anything you want to. This allows the engineers to work on what really inspires them and gets them going. Products that have come out of this philosophy include:

• Google Maps
• GMail
• Google News
• Google Reader

This project should be related to what field you want to study in college or work in industry. This piece or pieces of work will be the centerpiece of your portfolio. Almost all colleges and design firms want to see a portfolio before they will even consider you.  This project will be required in your portfolio and will culminate in a 1/2 hour presentation at the end of the year to all of the students in CAWD.

From now until the end of the day, you will be working on a presentation (powerpoint or keynote) to pitch to us on your 20% project idea.

This presentation should contain the following for at least 3 ideas:

• What you will learn
• What your finished project will be
• How this relates to your future field
• What you need to complete this project
• What you will have ready for applications in December.

Now that you theoretically have an idea of what you want to work on the year, you will be starting on your actual 20% project.

Each week you will be working on the same project and will have to demonstrate progress during Monday morning meetings.
