  • B Day
  • Tuesday Meetings. Doors locked. (oh no… I’m not here for meetings.)
  • Game Teams – We will be presenting our games where they are at on Thursday before lunch. 5 minute presentations of what your game is (again), who is doing what, where your game is at, what you did to get where you are at, what you still need to do, so on. Use this as your most primitive version what your state presentation will be.

9:45 Basic Javascript Game (Goblin Hunter)

SINCE I AM NOT HERE TODAY, YOU ALL WILL BE EMAILING ME YOUR GAME BY THE END OF THE DAY NO MATTER WHERE IT IS AT FOR CREDIT. PEOPLE WHO LEAVE AFTER LUNCH, YOU WILL EMAIL ME BEFORE YOU GO TO YOUR AFTERNOON CLASS. PEOPLE HERE IN THE AFTERNOON WILL CONTINUE THE GAME AND SEND ME THEIR PRODUCT AT THE END OF THE DAY. KAPEESH?

LOOK DOWN AT THE END OF THE DAYPLAN TO SEE HOW I WANT YOU TO EMAIL ME.

Goblin HuntToday you will be using your basic knowledge of Javascript (things like variable, functions, if/else statements, and math) to build a ridiculously simple game that gets us more use to these components.

Follow THIS tutorial to create your javascript file. This file is the only file you will want to edit FOR NOW. If you download the EXAMPLE FILES above, you can see a very tiny folder of and index.html, 3 images, and a javascript file. Open up that javascript and follow along.

The tutorial gradually breaks this game into pieces to gradually create each and every part. Starting with things like a canvas, background, character, and monsters. Then getting into the harder stuff with things like keyboard handles (controls), random spawning, points and game loop.

So please stay focused, follow along and hopefully even the few more “advanced” coders in here will learn a thing or two about javascript. Or just game creation in general.

When complete place folder of the entire game renamed as 2DGame into your week_24 folder.

12:45 Asset Replacement

AGAIN, PLEASE SEE BELOW TO SEE HOW I WANT YOU TO EMAIL ME.

assetsFor the afternoon, we are going to take the game we had created and replace the image assets to become a bit more personalized. You can pretty much create the game into any fetch type, simple game.

Take a look into the folder we created our little Goblin Hunter game and check out the three different assets we needed for this game. We need a background, a hero, and a monster. Since this is not an animated game either, it’s nice that we will only need one image for each asset.

You can look online for any ideas, just don’t over think this. Again we only need 3 assets, but I want you to get creative with this.

Use photoshop or illustrator to create these new assets. But they are small so think pixelated characters and backgrounds. The dimensions are below.

Requirements:

  • background.png ( 512×480 )
  • hero.png ( 32×32 )
  • monster.png ( 32×32 )

When complete place folder of the entire game renamed as 2DGame into your week_24 folder.

2:05 Dismissal

Hello Mr. Moore,

Today I worked on the Javascript game. “Blank” is something new I learned while “blank” is something that still confused me in the code. Below I have attached the game for you to see. “Blank” is something I still need to get done.

AFTERNOON PEOPLE – In the afternoon I used “blank” as inspiration to make my game look like “blank”. I used (program) to create my images.

Hope you are having fun not feeling great….
