9:45 Design the Band Intro

We as a “firm” will help create apparel, graphics, and an online image for a band of choice. Please choose a band that less recognized. No Pink Floyd or Artic Monkies. We are going to act as if we have the time to interview this group. We need to garner as much information about them as possible. We’ll use this time to watch videos of the group, listen to their music, and ask questions about them as individuals and as a group.

The plan is to create all content like their Website, social media, posters, brochures, business cards, CDs, apparel, photography, mission, etc. As a “firm”, we will have full creative freedom with minimal feedback from the band throughout the process. At the end of the 2-3 weeks, we will have a massive critique session to see how our content connects to our bands.

the interview

You are going to use a SMALL amount of your time today to garner as much information about your band. You are going to go online and find music, concerts they performed at, any existing art, etc. You really just need as much information about your band as possible to create the next few steps.

Find things like:

  • Genre
  • Art styles
  • # of members in band
  • Where they are from
  • What kind of bands are they like
  • What are the focal points of their music or band
  • Do they have an underlying message (religion, political cause, etc.)
mission statement

You will use the information gained from “the interview” to create a mission statement that best describes the vision of the band. The mission statement needs to be adaptive, flexible, fluid enough to span over a growth of a business.

A Mission Statement is a 1-2 sentence statement that best describes the band and their motives. At least 15 words.

Feeding off the interview and mission statement, a style guide needs to be created to make sure all design elements are cohesive. Often times it’s very easy to divert off the original idea for a project, this guide will make sure we use the correct design element for the right purpose.

Your style guide will have to include the following:

  • Your Missions Statement
  • Target Audience
  • Inspiration
  • Logo (if they have one – or create one)
  • Fonts
  • Colors
  • Shapes
