Brandon’s Photos

Stick Photo

Sticks of Mist

Harvest – Photo of a flower, I wanted to get the texture and the focus of the grains on the flower.

I tried to focus on the flower to the right, but is more to the center. I focused on that as my subject and then made even more clear by making the background blurred.

I then went into Photoshop to edit the photo some more, I edited the color a bit made it a bit more vibrant, because it was really cloudy and dark that day. I put a little more detail on the subject, and this was my end project. I also used the rule of thirds on this photo, just to make things a little more different.

Shuvel Photo

The Digg

Harvest – This was a photo of the head of a shovel, and in the background there was some grass which I think adds some more texture to the photo.

So when I took this photo i didn’t realize that there was a piece of grass in the way, and then when I went to edit it I saw it. I think that it kind of gets in the way of the photo, but I still thought that it was upload worthy. I added some clarity to this for the focus of the shovel, and some color. I also remember making the picture a little warmer using Photoshop as well.

Burnt Rubber

Harvest – This was a photo of a wheelbarrow in my back yard. I had tried to take a picture of it before this but it didn’t come out as planned. So I went back and tried taking the photo at a different angle than before. The subject was of the wheel on the wheel barrow, I liked how the sun was reflecting on the right side of it. I went into Photoshop and made the picture a little warmer and then turned up the clarity a bit, I turned up the blacks a bit and then reduced the exposure a bit as well.

Leaf_BW

Forgotten Times

Harvest – I found this leaf on my old playground equipment, it was at the start of fall. I made this black and white, and I only turned up the clarity to focus most of the edges on the leaf. I really liked this photo a lot because I got the photo really in focus and I can really see the detail of the leaf. I didn’t really like the leaf in its color state, and I also liked how the background came out in the photo as well.

Sunset Photo

“You Shall Not Pass!”

Harvest – I really liked the color of the leaves in this photo, and the sun shining through the trees as well. I also liked how the sky looks almost distorted, I do wish though that I could of taken the picture without the house and car to the right. I went into Photoshop and turned up the color, and then made the picture a little warmer, because most of my pictures are a lot darker and don’t really represent harvest or fall to me. I think that this photo came out well, other than the car and the house as I have previously said. I also used the rule of thirds while taking this photo.

Dry_Sticks

Death

Harvest – I really liked this photo because of the beautiful texture that I think it represents. The color is a little bland but I went into Photoshop and again turned up the color a bit, turned the clarity up some. The subject was the middle dry stick, if you can’t see the second dry stick on the right side is blurred out a little. Then the background is almost entirely blurred out. I just love who I can see in detail the texture of the leaves and the stick itself. I thought about using the rule of thirds after taking this photo, but then when I went back to take another photo the stick had fallen down and well just didn’t look very good in my opinion.

Leaf

Leaf  ’O’  Gold

Harvest – I took this photo a couple weeks back when the sunset was perfect, one of those weekends I can’t remember. Either way I liked how the sunlight shined through the leave itself, the bottom of the photo was really dark when I originally took this photo. So I went into Photoshop and lightened up the photo itself, I love the shadow of the grass on the back of the leaf as well. I also went into Photoshop and made the photo warmer and then turned up the clarity, I did I think dumb down the exposure.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin in the Rough

Harvest – I had been trying to find a pumpkin photo for awhile, and we had stopped at a gas station and there was a pile of pumpkins in front of a flower bed. So I took like ten photos of this and then went back to my class the following Monday.  When I first went into Photoshop and tried to edit this, it came out way to orange, and the colors were just way too bright. So the next week I went and tried again, this time I just dumbed down the colors from the original edited photo. Also in the original photo, the color of the flowers were much more vibrant than the pumpkin so I then went and edited that as well.

Slide

Slide to Fall

Harvest – This was also at the playground equipment I had previously talked about. At first the photo was tilted a little to the right I think, I tried to crop the photo a bit so that it was more level. I think that I fixed it to some extent, I went into Photoshop and made the photo a little bit warmer as I did with most of them. This might be my least favorite photo out of all ten of them.

Tree_Crop

City of Gold

Harvest – At first this photo had a lot going on in the background, which I think took away from the focus of the photo. So I first went in and cropped the photo to take out the road and the houses in the background. I left in what I wanted, which was the background sky and the colorful trees. I then boosted the clarity and the color, and then made the photo warmer. I like the sky because, well I’m not sure I just think that the color of the sky came out really well. I used the rule of thirds in this photo, so set a focus on the tree to the left more.

“Death”- I love all the texture in it. I disagree on the bland colors – I think those colors suit the very picture well. I also like the focus on your subject.

I like your “Sticks of Mist” and “Death” because of how you brought out your subjects against an interesting background. “Forgotten times is a good use of the rule of thirds, and I like how the subject interlaces with the background

Hi Brandon- I’m Bob Dunn, teacher of the North Country crew. I just loved your collection of photos. You obviously gave the subject of each photo lots of thought to make them stand out. In particular, I thought the ’sticks of mist’ was just super. The depth of field brings your subject out and creates what looks like a misty day in the background.

Pumpkin in the rough shows a real understanding of the rule of thirds. I really like the purple and blue colors that you feature in that piece.

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing these pieces with me today.
