10:10 Critiques

Each week we will upload our work on Monday. I will then present your work to the class. Each project I will pick a student to practice giving constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is a type of feedback that offers specific and actionable advice to help employees to improve. In the professional setting we need to be to talk professionally about the work, even if you don’t “love” the person who created it.

If selected, you will pick 1 thing that works, and 1 thing to improve upon next time. Remember we are separating the Design from the Designer. We are looking for actionable input.

10:35 Midweek Morning Meetings

Wednesday’s we will have our Midweek Morning Meetings.

You and I will meet 1:1 and we can:

  • See what you are missing for assignments
  • Go over the previous weeks T&E grades
  • Go over anything you are pretty confused about so I can review

When not meeting with me – I want you working on Production.

10:50 Morning Break (10 minutes)

11:00 Finish Midweek Morning Meetings

11:10 GAWD Portfolio

Our final student Landmark that you will leave in on the GAWD Development Server you are going to create your Final Portfolio.

You will use WordPress and replace the RBT client work that you did. Get an OBS of your client work before you nuke it to death. Go through the pages and media library and remove the RBT work.

In terms of your Portfolio requirements I want to be open ended so long as some basics are setup:

  • Landing page / Homepage with introduction / bio / career goals / something welcoming / hero image / hero art
  • 6 pieces of work / Projects
    • If you are going to use MP4’s I would recommend using YouTube to host and then embed.
    • Still frames go right in the Media Library.
    • Headings, paragraphs, and lists for each project. Be consistent.
      • Name of project (heading)
      • Medium (subheading)
      • Skills Practiced (list)
      • Why you like this project (2-3 sentences)
        • Make this a pattern? Repeat it over and over and over for professionalism through consistency.
  • Total of 7 pages

** Notice that I do not have a contact page – I think your pertinent info can go in the footer that shows up on every page. Make the footer be professional and have ways to contact you, and if you want to use a made up address and contact details that is fine but make it look professional and fool me!

My goal is to keep these live so you can all use these Portfolios going forward. Never rely on this as your original copy of any work, but I will leave them up.

So nothing to upload, just start working on your Portfolio on your WordPress CMS install.

Think about:

  • Which are your BEST projects?
  • Do you have a lot / theme you want to use? Anything is legal. Go crazy.
  • Combination of your CMS skills with hand coding overrides. Remember how much you know and can overwrite that the theme is locking you out of.

1:00 Afternoon Break (15 minutes)

1:15 Afternoon Practice & Production

Only 5 minutes as it’s Wednesday – Dailies at 1:20!

1:20 Dailies

1:25 “19 Minutes”

Every day in GAWD will end with “19 Minutes” of silent reading. Closing down our day with silent reading provides many benefits:

  • Improve Literacy Skills / Reading Stamina
  • Create space for a small reading meditation where we can disconnect from the world and get lost in a story
  • Unplug

At the end I will 3 students and ask for a 1 sentence explanation of what happened.

1:45 Dismissal
