Notes

  • Quiz tomorrow – please study!
  • We may be having visitors tomorrow, remember the next up for visitors are Angel, Shelby (though you will be at a field trip), Sol, Nikki, etc.  We may have to rearrange schedules a bit to accommodate visitors…we will see…
  • As I graded yesterday, I noticed some people are using different images folders, such as “images2″, and “portfolioimages”….please don’t do this, it will mess your organization up later.  Make a dedicated project folder for each project, and use “images” folder for each project.

10:20 Morning Web Exercise:  Favorite Movie Information Table using IMDB.

For those that don’t know IMDB is a great resource on random movie data, to help end arguments amongst your friends, and just waste copious amounts of time.

You are going to use IMDB and tables to create a web page that covers 3 of your favorite movies.

You will first create a table with the following headings:

  • Movie Poster
  • Movie
  • Year
  • IMDB Page

This heading will go across the top of your table.

Next you will populate the table (fill in the info) with a minimum of three of your favorite movies.

Save the movie poster image from IMDB.  This image will go in the far left column of your table.

The movie title and year are self explanatory.  These two pieces of info go in the middle.

The last, far right column will be a link to the IMDB page for that movie.

Make sure all of your images are in an images folder.  Put your entire project into a “movieInfo” folder.  That will be a single XHTML document, images folder, and 3 images (minimum).  Upload this “movieInfo” folder into Week 19.

12:50 Afternoon Photoshop / Illustrator / Hand Drawing Exercise:  Logo Tournament Competition for “4theGrill.com”

This afternoon we are going to work on a logo design competition for a 4theGrill.com, an Ohio based BBQ specialty store.

Here is their website where you can see their current logo.

Now we will go over the project brief.

If you have a Logo Tournament account, you want to make sure you create this fully vector based, in Illustrator.  If you want to do this as a CAWD assignment, you can work in Illustrator, Photoshop, or create the piece of artwork by hand.  Regardless, start with a new file at 350 x 280 at 300 DPI (or 1 sheet of paper, change the setting to 300 DPI).

When complete, save your two files as “grill.png” and “grill.psd(or .ai)” and upload to Week 19.  We want to see your .png for grading, and your authoring file for use later in life.
