Week 21 Website Development Assignment

** Note**.  From now on late work will be reduced by 2 letter grades.  If you turn in work that is “B” level, but it is late, it will go down to a “D”.  Promptness and meeting deadlines is extremely important in industry and will be reflected in Website Development.  Work must be turned in by Saturday at midnight.

2nd years in “WD” will be now be taking the Thursday quizzes.  Be prepared for the Thursday quizzes first thing.

As we have finished the first two assignments, some basic errors that students are missing which is hurting grades include:

  • Inappropriate page titles
  • Inappropriate alt and title tags for images and links respectively
  • Not checking validator when turning in work; work with silly errors is being turned in, reducing grades.
  • Incomplete sentences.

Week 21 Technical Aspects Covered

  • CSS documents
  • Linking to external style sheets
  • Creating horizontal Nav’s
  • Styling links

  • Starting to think of life after high school / college.

Project:

This week you are going to do some job searches, finding 5 jobs which you, if 22 and just out of college, may be interested in applying for.

You will use different job search websites such as CareerBuilder, Monster, and Craigslist, as well as specific local options such as Seven Days to find jobs that interest you.

Create a main heading / graphic that says “Career Options”.

You will have a horizontal nav with links that are the title of the job.  For instance, your links could be “Graphic Designer”, “Web Developer”, “Photographer”, “Level Editor”, etc.

For each job page (5 jobs total) get the following information:

  • Job title – specific link to job advertisement
  • Company – website address to general company website
  • Location in World
  • Duties – what you would be doing
  • Experience they are looking for
  • Potential Salary
  • Final paragraph that explains (3-5 sentences) why you would like this job, and what you need to do over the next 5-8 years to get it.

In addition to the main technical aspects covered, your website will also include:

  • Consistent Headings and Navigation
    • Minimum of 5 pages (one per job)
    • Headings / Links that do not move page by page
  • Correct demonstration of (not necessarily all):
    • Headings
    • Lists (OL or UL)
    • Paragraphs
    • Images
    • Valid XHTML

Save and upload this assignment to your “WD” folder inside of Week 21 by Saturday February 20th at midnight.

You will be getting a new WD assignment that will be posted Monday February 22nd (During Vacation) that will be due Saturday February 27th (During Vacation). Please be aware of this and ensure completion.
