Notes

  • No morning article today due to visitors.
  • Students can stay and work this afternoon until 3pm, when all your work from Week 21 is due.
  • If you want to go on the late bus to BFA, MHS, CHS, and WHS, please tell me so I can email the bus driver.  They may not let you on the bus unless you make prior arrangements.
  • SkillsUSA State Competitions are 1 week from today!  Make sure you have your ride to CTE for early Tuesday morning, your clothing set, you are studying / writing your speech, etc.
  • CTE apps for next year are due this Friday March 12th.  If you have friends that may want to come to CTE next year, or you want to come back to CAWD or a different program, make sure you have the appropriate forms turned in by Friday.

  • Get a partner
  • Grab a non-colored pencil (one for each partner) and one sheet of paper; no erasures, no rulers.  Make space on your desk where you can both work on the drawing at the same time.

10:15 Morning Photoshop Exercise:  Restroom.

In our first Photoshop exercise of the day you will be working off of a file called “restroom.jpg” located in today’s example files.

Using this file as a base, use your Photoshop skills to do anything you want to it.  The goal is realism.

Use any image you want from the internet, please use high resolution images from the internet.  One of the biggest problems with Photoshop projects is the combination of low res and high res imagery.

When complete save your file as “bathroomReworked.png” and upload to Week 22.  Don’t fall into under the spell of what you think will be a “funny” project, go for quality Photoshop.

From now until lunch complete your New World Layout.

Check last Friday’s dayplans for specfiics.

Save your file as “new.psd” and “new.png” and upload to Week 22.

12:50 Tuesday / Thursday Layout Redesign:  Mahican Moccasin

Mahican Moccasin is a Pownal Vermont based business that makes and sells Moccasin’s.  Their current website is not what it could be (valid code, layout style).  You are going to create a spec layout for the client in which you replicate the content on the homepage with a fresh design.

“A moccasin is a shoe made of deerskin or other soft leather, consisting of a sole and sides made of one piece of leather, stitched together at the top, and sometimes with a vamp (additional panel of leather). The sole is soft and flexible and the upper part often is adorned with embroidery or beading. Historically, it is the footwear of many Native American tribes; moreover, hunters, traders, and European settlers wore them.”

Mahican Moccasin makes custom moccasins, and sells other brands as well.

Looking at what they currently have as a layout, it is a two color setup, without much flow, and as you can see from the Native American graphic in the top left of the screen, is isn’t very subtle.  You are going create a new design for them.

The style/feel of the layout should be of Vermont/Native American/Nature.  While this assignment does NOT have a dedicated logo component, consider creating some sort of visual / graphic / header to use in your layout.

Consider using a website such as Color Lovers to create a color palate for your project.

Copy Requirements:

Inside of of our example files is a “moccasin” folder with a .txt file called “copyforSite”.  All the words that show up in this file need to be in your layout.

No TIMES NEW ROMAN font!!! Start exploring other font faces.

Image Requirements:

All of the images inside the “mocassin” folder must appear on the site.  If you could gently adjust the images so they are all the same size (maybe by adding a white background to the smaller ones), your overall document will look nicer.

All other images you use for this assignment must come from Photos.com.

You have two afternoons to work on this, take your time, think about the design, and have fun in Photoshop.  By the end of the day on Thursday save your layout twice as “moc.png” and “moc.psd” and upload to Week 22.
