Class hours: 9:40am – 2:05pm
I hemmed and hawed over the final project. While I was going to be hyper-specific initially, I decided to open the door more to your creativity. I am going to let you do (almost) anything in Photoshop that pushes it creatively. The only thing I don’t want to see are more restorations. While I appreciate the effort restorations take, I want to push the creativity you can bring. Photoshop is just a tool to use, and I want to see how you can be creative with it without any requirements or limitations (except, you know, no restorations).
Some ideas that were almost your final to consider if you are lacking immediate inspiration. Many of these I have done with my DIM kids through the years.
The Students of Cawd2 (recognize anyone?):
Maybe you do the students of Dim? Use the cameras we have to get photos of your classmates and create something interesting.
Use Photoshop to Paint 3D Textures:
You can’t use Substance Painter for this – you would have to use Photoshop, but if you enjoy working in 3d art and want to leverage Photoshop toward that career focus, this is fine.
Photoshop actually has a powerful Vector tool-set, not as deep as Illustrator, but if I needed to create something vector based and you didn’t have access to Illustrator, it is useful to know how to use Photoshop to get the same results.
Spectrum in the Sky
Use masks and layers to create something artistic using images you find from the internet, or images that you have created yourself. We have had students take images from real image above, to themed images below:
You could do a web layout, a digital painting, typography, really anything that pushes the creativity you have using a tool such as Photoshop.
Content you can work from:
Anything is acceptable to use as source imagery, keep in a “sources” folder so you can show us where you started from. Be ready to show this in your presentation, and have be easily visible if you are a paper person.
The work must be 1080p in size. That is a width of 1920 and height of 1080. If you would like to go bigger this is fine so long as you follow the aspect ration of 1080p which is 1.785:1 So you could do 4000 x 2240 as an example. Keep the ratio.
What will this practice?
Photoshop. In one sentence, “Be Creative with Photoshop”.
Turning in work
Create a folder called “assignment_7” inside “dim”. Inside place:
- “sources” folder with all images you work from so we can see what you did, and where you started.
Dates to remember
- Assigned Wednesday, January 2nd
- Due Wednesday, January 16th – the day we return from vacation.
This is your final project for Mr. Cronin – ever! Some of you will use this project to push you into the next letter grade (B+ to A-), and some will slack and have this project drag you into the next letter grade (B- to C+). Do yourself proud.
