Class hours: 9:40am – 2:05pm
Quick run through of some points for CAWD2. As application time is coming around, I want to make sure everyone has access to all information possible. No stone unturned.
CAWD 2 to College
In CAWD2, every student at the beginning of the year will be either taking a Drawing 1 class or Python Programming class. We have seen in the past students who do not use vouchers that are FREE. It has been one of my missions to have students actually use those. It’s important to take advantage of the space given. But this also connects you closer to your career cluster of choice.
Other College Opportunities and More
On top of the two choice courses, students have the opportunity to take Digital Image Manipulation, Web Dev 1, Drawing 2, and more. We are really pushing to get more and more classes available to you all. At the moment, a student COULD walk away with close to 20+ credits.
In CAWD2 we have a pretty awesome array of equipment to help push student curriculum.
- 3D Printer
- Vynal Printer
- Asus PC
- HTC Vive
- PC / Mac Computers
- Canon T3i DSL Cameras
- Green Screen
- DJI Phantom 3 Drone
- And More….
Structure / Independence
The Structure in CAWD2 is a tiny bit different than in CAWD1. Here, everyone is working on the same projects (generally speaking) at similar times. In CAWD2 we fluctuate a lot more. I have designed a curriculum that I believe helps students navigate the difficult decision of “What am I going to be doing for a career??”
First Quarter (Tiny bit less) – Review / “Soul Searching”
During the first chunk of the year, we will be doing review and new projects in all major areas of media related to CAWD. This is to get our feet wet again in each area, while searching for that career cluster we really want to work in.
Second Quarter (Tiny bit more) – Career Cluster Work / “Honeymoon Phase”
During the second session of the year, students will be choosing a career cluster and will be given a Curriculum Map specific to that cluster. Assignments, tests, presentations, milestones, standards and proficiencies will all be outlined.
Second Semester – Student Specific Students / “Getting Married”
Around Midterms is where CAWD2 gets very student specific. Students will be given the choice on projects THEY want to do. Not projects I tell you to make. This is for two big reasons: First, this is to build independence in your own work. Second, a lot of the work we love to do is work we decide to do.
Again, students will be given an outline for standards and proficiencies that need to be met / hit over the projects. We will sit down individually and work out projects that align with these standards.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on Friday….
Preparation for College / Work
Students have the opportunity to work with clients and get real job shadows. This year, every CAWD2 student was able to get a shadow at Dealer.com. On top of that, we will be doing another round of shadows this spring. This year alone, we have been able to work with people like:
- Ben Dickie
- Upright Builders VT
- Two Roads Academy
- Albert D. Lawton School
- And more…
Walking away from CAWD2 students WILL have both college credit and real client experience. Two huge missions of mine since taking over CAWD2.
Now is your time to ask. Applications are due after the break. If you need any more information, Emmy and myself are the two to ask.
