9:45 Morning Maya Exercise: “The Corner”
This morning we are going to have a chance for some self directed application of content we just covered: Light Emitting Materials.
In our example files today is a file called “theCorner.mb”. It is a … corner. The Camera is locked, you can’t change your view, and it is already set to 720p.
I want you to take this morning and explore Light Emitting Materials. You have this corner to explore it in.
What could you make? Something literal? Something abstract? A lantern? An alien? An angel? A control pad? A street light? A city?
Create a single at 720p called “lightEmittingCronin.jpg” and upload to your Week 3 folder.

11:30 Friday Morning Sketching Content: Baseline Portrait
We will continue working on our sub-focus in Cawd, of the three sketch types that Champlain College wants to see in their applicants. Last week we did Still Life, this week we are doing Portraits, and next week we will do Perspective.
The first part of the process is to get a baseline on what you can do now. At the end of the year we will compare what you create in September to what you create in June, and will see the growth.
For this weeks assignment I want you to sketch a portrait. Let’s say shoulders and up, just as the image above shows. It should be more or less looking at the designer, and to make it easier on yourself I would recommend pose similar to what we see above. It doesn’t have to be you, but I would recommend you sketch someone “random”. If you pick someone specific to sketch (Trump / Obama / Will Smith) and it is 100% perfect, “people” will complain, or point out flaws. Just find some rando online.
The only caveat to this is if you wish to sketch yourself, that is never a bad idea.
Sign and date in the bottom right corner, on the back table right before lunch.

12:45 First Google 20% Project!
What is a 20% project? What could I do?
Topics by 1pm.
How am I graded?
Create a folder called “20” inside your Weekly folders. Notice no percent symbol. Any content that is 20% related goes in this folder, and call logical file names.
If I were modeling a sword in Maya I would have a “20” folder, and then I would make 3 renders at 720p called “swordCronin_1.jpg” through “swordCronin_3.jpg”.
If I were doing some Photoshop work I would have a “20” folder, and then I would make a .jpg called “creationCronin.jpg”.
You must include your name in the file.
You must include 3 renders if working in Maya.
You must include 1 .jpg if working in Photoshop.
You must include 1 published .swf if working in Animate.
