One row at a time we will grab our little tin art cups, and fill them with all the goodies a blooming artists needs. Colored pencils and normal pencils. Wooh!
10:10 Archive Year 1
Let’s prepare our FTP space to hand in work for Year 2. You are allowed to style this space appropriately so I am still able to grade. No hidden links, terrible contrast, memes, so on.
Take all the work currently in your FTP account and move into a folder caller year_01. Once you have created your year_01 folder you should create a week_01 folder to hold all the work from this week. This three day week will be your week_01.
10:20 NEW Tablets and Drivers
Everyone has NEW Tablets! These tablets are the new Wacom Intuos with amazing 4,096 pen pressure sensitivity. Nerding out. If the tablets don’t install the drivers right away, we can go over to this link to get the newest Wacom Drivers.
Real quick, we need to jump into the CAWD public folder and run a little program to fix our Adobe Licensing. Something that came up yesterday (last night even), so let’s all fix the problem.
10:35 Goal Time Capsule
Real quick we are going to write down some goal you would like to achieve over the school year. This can be any goal at all. Could be about life, health, education, work, family, maybe a hobby? We are going to take these goals, shove them into a “time capsule” and not look at them until the last week of school. This is a fun and different way to keep yourself accountable.
10:45 Break (15 Minutes)
11:00 Sticker Design
As you may know, we have a vinyl cutter in CAWD 2. This allows us to cut out silhouettes or shapes that are stickers. I had some time this summer to read up on the cutter and waste a lot of vinyl, but I think I may have it figured out. This sticker is your identification to your computer all year. Yes you may put more stickers on your computer (5 at max – Vinyl only). We will cut more stickers throughout the year. Not just for our computers.
Watch this older apple commercial to get an idea of what we can make.

We have an array of colors to choose from, but your design will only be printed in one. So choose wisely. We have:

12:10 Lunch (30 Minutes)
It’s lunch as normal. But let’s see real quick who is NOT returning after lunch. Bring out those handy dandy schedules.

1:10 CAWD1 and CAWD2 Collaboration
This afternoon we will be partnering up with CAWD1 for our first collaboration project, one you may remember very well. We are bigger than them, we have been here longer, we know more, let’s show them what we know.
CAWD1 will be doing a short lesson between 12:45 and 1:10. This is to use the custom shapes, basic transforms, color, things like that. We know all those things… right?
Once we join CAWD1, we will all be assigned roles. Roles you may be accustom to. Below is the brief description of each.
The Creative Director (CAWD2 students) will be in charge of describing a photograph. The image they’ve seen must inspire a project made with custom shapes in Photoshop.
The Designer (CAWD1 students) will be the worker bee. She/he will be the only person able to touch the computer and actually do the work. You will stay seated this afternoon…but do all the creating. You won’t get to see the image itself until the end.
The process will be broken down into two steps:
Creative directors will be shown an image on the lead board machine. You may walk back and forth as many times as you would like to glance at the image. But you MAY NOT draw the image while you are looking at it. You may look, go sit down, then begin the pre-production work. You may answer any questions asked by your Designer. But you may not touch the mouse. If the student doesn’t know how to do something, you must tell them how instead of showing them how.
Work work work. You will have roughly 40 minutes to achieve the image. Again, designers may ask as many questions as they would like. Don’t know how to transform? TELL them how. Not show. Don’t know where the color tools are? TELL, not show.
At the time of Dailies, we will have Directors walk up to the front of the room. Designers will stop working and put their work up in photoshop presentation mode. We will all walk around to see how we all did. Some might be waaay off.
CAWD2 – If you could all help the new students out finding their buses? I will also be walking out with everyone.
