12:45 Character Design
This afternoon we will be creating our first character design of the year. This will be a chance for us to use our cubbies for the first time to hand in paper based assignments and also get us into the swing of game design. As you can see from the image above, Ralph from Wreck it Ralph didn’t ed up originally as planned. There were modifications and changed over the course of the character design process.
Today we will be creating a character off of a rough prompt. This prompt will be part of a larger game project in which we will take these characters and place them into some sort of fighter / battle based objective game.
- Something you honestly feel like you can make in Maya (I will explain)
- Some sort of action combat system. Main attack and secondary attack. (no pure guns. Water ballon gun? Laugh ray?)
- Prompt: Our game is going to be a third person, “moba” like, team based objective game. Multiple players fight waves of minions and defenses to attack a single large enemy. Good inspiration would be from most hero based shooters. Gigantic, Battleborn, Overwatch, Palidans, so on. Our world is going to be based on a Halloween Town. No not the movies, but that general holiday theme. Your character should reflect some ideas of Halloween.
- 1 – 2 – 3 sketch.
You will be drawing your character in 3 parts. First part will be a super rough sketch, no color. You may want to do a couple of these to get your ideas out on paper. Second will be a more defined sketch, added detail, still no color. Lastly will be the best you can possibly draw your character, most detail, with color.
When complete, sign and date and place sketchbooks in your cubby for grading.
