Visit to Lyndon State College

On Friday the CAWD2 students took a trip up to Lyndon State College to check out their programs in Animation & Illustration, Digital Media, and Graphic Design. We were able to meet with the faculty, see samples of student work, and talk to students in the program. It was a nice way to get to see what Lyndon is about, and the options they give our students for life after high school.

We found out that students can do a portfolio review once accepted where their CAWD work can potentially get them out of classes at Lyndon. You get the college credit, but you don’t need to pay, or take the classes if you can demonstrate you already have the knowledge. Seems good to me.

We had lunch with the students / faculty, and all agreed that the french fries were pretty much amazing. The fish sticks….big disappointment.

We also got to see Markus (CAWD ’08) Alex’s brother, randomly in the cafe. The head of the Digital Media program said that “Just last week Markus had done work which blew him away“. So yeah, Markus appears to be doing pretty well. For those that don’t know Markus, he is the one giving the hug to Brian…or here.

….Brian doesn’t look too thrilled……

So yeah….

Trip to Champlain College

Tour on CampusOur trip to Champlain college on Tuesday was such an eye-opener. For the past few months I have been struggling to decide what college I will be attending next year, this field trip has shown me that Champlain college is definitely an option. When we arrived at the school we were immediately greeted by faculty as well as current students. From here we were given a tour of the college by two students who are currently enrolled at Champlain. The tour went well, it was long enough to learn what was desired yet short enough that you didn’t become bored. However might I say…It was an impressively cold that day… :/

Once we had finished with the outside tour, we headed inside to see the classrooms, the dorms, the technology, the cafe’s,Presentation and even the lounge areas. The college overall is quite impressive, from the glassed in dome rooms, to the cafe’s for a midday coffee and sandwich, the college has a comfortable, laid back feel to it.

We ended our tour of Champlain College with a discussion about video games! We talked about the programmers, the designers, the artists, who makes what for money and where this industry is headed. The trip was very enjoyable, I learned a lot, and am a little bit closer to feeling confident about my future.
