SkillsUSA Vermont Competitions
Posted by sherr | Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 | Comments (1)
The SkillsUSA state competitions are tomorrow at the Vermont Air National Guard Base. CAWD will have students representing CTE in both the Web Design and Quiz Bowl Competitions. CAWD had our local competition last week and selected 4 students that excelled in the mock competitions to represent our class at the state competition. We chose a local business that already has a web presence and asked our students to design a site for this company without seeing their real site. We do this so our students can see what direction the company decided to go in after they finish, and compare their designs to a real site. We aren’t actually working with GMCS in anyway, nor are they going to use there sites, this is just a pracice job. Here are print screens of the 4 CAWD winners:

Dr. Herr will be heading to the VTANG base with 9 CAWD students and will be there all day. I will be hopefully blogging and vlogging(Video Blogging) from all of the SkillsUSA events. There will also be a Banquet after the competitions. The banquet will be at the Sheraton in Burlington and that will be where we find out how our students place. So check the blog tonight at around 8pm and all throughout the day to get updates on the competitions.

Trip to Champlain College
Posted by Hoyt | Wednesday, December 5th, 2007 | Comments (0)
Our trip to Champlain college on Tuesday was such an eye-opener. For the past few months I have been struggling to decide what college I will be attending next year, this field trip has shown me that Champlain college is definitely an option. When we arrived at the school we were immediately greeted by faculty as well as current students. From here we were given a tour of the college by two students who are currently enrolled at Champlain. The tour went well, it was long enough to learn what was desired yet short enough that you didn’t become bored. However might I say…It was an impressively cold that day… :/
Once we had finished with the outside tour, we headed inside to see the classrooms, the dorms, the technology, the cafe’s, and even the lounge areas. The college overall is quite impressive, from the glassed in dome rooms, to the cafe’s for a midday coffee and sandwich, the college has a comfortable, laid back feel to it.
We ended our tour of Champlain College with a discussion about video games! We talked about the programmers, the designers, the artists, who makes what for money and where this industry is headed. The trip was very enjoyable, I learned a lot, and am a little bit closer to feeling confident about my future.
